Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Newlo. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

If we learn that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account immediately.

2. Your account

2.1 Account creation

You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

2.2 One account per person

You may only have one Newlo account. You may not impersonate anyone else or misrepresent your identity.

2.3 Account security

Notify us immediately at contact@newlo.app if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account.

3. Use of the Service

3.1 Permitted use

Newlo is intended for personal, non-commercial use. You may use the Service to:

• Connect with other newcomers in your city.
• Post and respond to flatmate listings.
• Create and join social hangouts.
• Message other users you have matched with or connected with through the Service's features.

3.2 Prohibited conduct

You agree NOT to:

• Use Newlo for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
• Harass, intimidate, threaten, or abuse other users.
• Post or share content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, sexually explicit, hateful, or discriminatory based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
• Share content depicting violence, weapons, or illegal activity.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation.
• Use the Service for commercial purposes (including spam, advertising, recruitment) without our written consent.
• Solicit personal information from other users for fraudulent or harmful purposes.
• Engage in sexual solicitation or send unwanted sexual content to other users.
• Post listings or hangouts that are misleading, fraudulent, or unsafe.
• Use Newlo to conduct illegal financial transactions, scams, or money laundering.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data from the Service.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to access the source code of Newlo.
• Interfere with the proper operation of the Service or attempt to gain unauthorised access to other accounts or systems.

3.3 Reporting violations

If you encounter a user or content that violates these Terms, please report it through the in-app reporting feature or contact us at contact@newlo.app.

4. Content

4.1 Your content

You retain ownership of the content you post on Newlo (photos, profile text, listings, hangouts, messages). However, by posting content, you grant Newlo a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content as necessary to operate and provide the Service.

This licence ends when you delete your content or your account, except where:

• The content has been shared with other users (e.g. messages, profile views).
• We are required to retain it for legal or safety reasons.

4.2 Your responsibilities

You are solely responsible for the content you post. You confirm that:

• You own the content or have permission to share it.
• It does not violate any third party's rights.
• It is accurate and not misleading.

4.3 Our right to remove content

We reserve the right to remove or modify any content that violates these Terms, harms users, or otherwise threatens the integrity of the Service.

5. Safety

5.1 Meeting other users

Newlo enables connections between newcomers, but we do not conduct background checks. Meetings, conversations, and interactions you have with other users are at your own risk.

You should:

• Meet new people in public places.
• Tell a friend or family member where you're going.
• Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, leave.
• Never send money or share financial information with someone you've met through Newlo.

5.2 Reporting abuse

If you experience harassment, abuse, or feel unsafe, please report immediately through the in-app reporting feature, contact us at contact@newlo.app, and where appropriate, contact the police.

5.3 Block and report

You can block any user at any time, which prevents them from contacting you. You can also report users for behaviour that violates these Terms.

6. Subscriptions and payments

If Newlo introduces paid features in the future, they will be governed by separate billing terms which will be presented to you before any purchase.

At present, Newlo is free to use.

7. Termination

7.1 Your right to terminate

You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. Once deleted, your profile will no longer be visible to other users.

7.2 Our right to terminate

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have:

• Violated these Terms.
• Acted in a way that harms other users or the integrity of the Service.
• Provided false or misleading information.

We may also discontinue the Service entirely, in which case we will give reasonable notice.

7.3 Effect of termination

Upon termination, your right to access and use the Service ends. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (e.g. content licence, liability limits, governing law) will continue to apply.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Newlo disclaims all warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
• Any defects will be corrected.
• The Service will meet your specific needs or expectations.
• Other users will be honest, respectful, or safe.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Newlo Ltd, its directors, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death, personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Newlo Ltd, its directors, employees, and partners from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the Service.
• Your violation of these Terms.
• Your violation of any third party's rights.
• Content you post on the Service.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Service.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer based outside the UK, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in your country of residence under applicable consumer law.

13. General

13.1 Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Newlo regarding the Service.

13.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.

13.3 No waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of those rights.

13.4 Assignment

You may not assign these Terms or your rights under them without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
